What is the difference between a fiber optic laser engraving laser and a fiber optic laser cutter?

This is one of the most frequent questions from our clients and today we are going to explain the difference between a fiber optic laser and a fiber optic laser cutter.

The fiber optic laser cutters are designed to cut metal at high speeds and with great precision. It is a literally new technology with less than 15 years of being in the market, before this technology the metal laser cutters were assembled with CO2 metal tubes that had to be replaced every year and a half

The big difference between these two technologies is that the optical fiber laser cutters have a much longer working life, while a CO2 tube for cutting metals had only 20,000 hours of work a fiber optic machine has 100,000 hours of work. Not only that, fiber optic cutting is much cleaner, deeper and faster.

This is why fiber optic machines replaced CO2 machines in the cutting of metal materials.

The basic function for which this machine was designed is for cuts of metal materials such as:

Stainless steel

Carbon steel

Aluminum

Copper

Bronze

Brass

Among others.

This is where the big difference is, these machines are designed only for  METAL CUTTING  and can not make cuts on other materials that are not metallic. This machine can not perform any laser engraving, as its head works by concentrating the light beam of the fiber in a single point to make a cut.

And this is where many people get confused, Ojo fiber optic can cut and record but can only perform one task ie short or record, can not perform both tasks at once. That is why a second machine has been designed, one to make engravings on metallic materials, this machine is:

The fiber optic laser recorder works completely different from the laser cutter, even though they are assembled with fiber optic power sources.

These have a totally different head.

As you can see in the pictures, both are totally different, the head of the metal laser recorder by fiber optic works like the lens of a camera and the wider the lens of this, the more work area it can record, the maximum of Engraving of a fiber optic lens is 1 meter by 1.50 meters. On the other hand, the head of the metal laser cutting machine only works generating a small cutting point and the working area can be up to a maximum of 3 meters wide and 6 meters long.

Advantages of optical fiber for metal engraving.

Our fiber optic engraving machines can engrave on:

Metals such as:  gold, silver, stainless steel, aluminum, carbon steel, bronze and copper.

Plastics

Glasses

3D engraving on glasses, bottles and glasses.

Engraving on plastic bags

NOTE:  this machine can only record and can not make any type of cut.
